Despite all the technological advancements taking place around the world as well as in India, a large population of our country finds itself difficult to get two square meals in a day.

This widowed old lady lives less than half a kilometer from the hospital. She is suffering from bilateral mature cataract. She had to be personally transported from her home in order to treat her because her children would not come forward to get her treated.

Survey data may have eradicated cataract backlog from the face of Punjab but the reality is absolutely the opposite. What to talk of the rural population, there are pockets within the main cities of Punjab where you can readily find innumerable bilaterally blind cataract patients passively waiting for someone to come to their doorstep and operate upon him.

At Dr.Daljit Singh Eye Hospital, we are committed to shoulder our social responsibility . Every patient is treated as equal, irrespective of his socio-economic background.

Though constitutionally not a charitable institution , NO PATIENT IS EVER TURNED AWAY FROM THE HOSPITAL FOR LACK OF FUNDS .

For the last 20 years, we have been regularly holding free OPD for the needy patients every thursday. Patients selected from this OPD are operated within the next seven days and this process goes on. In this way we may have treated more patients than most of the charitable institutions ,without even making a sound.

Till now we have always maintained this activity to our personal level without taking any outside assistance. But we feel  that a much larger effort is needed to really make a sizable dent into the ever burgeoning population of treatable blind of our country.
